An impressive budget IEM

Taking into consideration the very budget friendly price point of these IEMs I have to say I am more than surprised how good these are.
The build quality seems totally fine, metal and plastic but it doesn't feel cheap and it's still lightweight enough.
The cable seems alright although its a bit noisy when touching other things.
Now to the sound... these sound magnificent. I use them straight out of the box, no AMP, no DAC, no EQ. The sound is very nicely balanced overall. The bass is tight but not too strong or overwhelming and the treble is very clear and enjoyable. Listening through them is really a delight. They are also fairly loud! I'm running them straight out of my phone's 3.5mm jack and they seem loud enough to me at around 50-60% volume.

Overall this is an excellent set of IEMs at an absolute bargain and no one should skip over them.

7HZ Salnotes Zero (Blue) - Type-C cable

I chose the Blue edition as I wanted to have a splash of colour. I was further surprised when I saw the array of multi-coloured eartips included, so vibrant. Whilst nothing new, the design is ergonomically appealing, no unwanted pressure, just sits comfortably in-ear. The Red eartips pre-installed in the box, I test fit all of the eartips and settled on the colour matched blue ones. My audio testing wasn't too technical, literally pressed play on a podcast to listen to the clarity response with various voices of different tones and accents (at 50% Volume), responded very well no issues with MIDs or highs, solid reproduction. For music, I went straight to my Deezer playlist (High Fidelity & at 50% Volume) and listened to some Pop ballads, Lovers Rock Reggae, Hip-Hop and R&B to see how the dynamic drivers dealt with prominent and the more subtle frequencies. I found that songs with deep, prolonged bass lines e.g. "Blue laces 2" by Nipsey Hussle had the drivers on the ropes, even when I removed my EQ bass parameters, however switching to 'Shook Up' by Erick the Architect was handled so well, also with my EQ settings added. Smooth bass response and clarity on all of the featured vocalists on the song.

Excellent value

These really are a great value buy. I really like the balanced sound, the fit and the looks. A detachable cable at this price point is great, too!

Good, slightly dry sound. To get the best result, you need to use an amplifier and an equalizer.

Excellent for the Price

These have excellent sound for the price. Sound quality improves quite a bit with EQ (as one might expect). Build quality and fit and finsh are decent for this price point. I have the Mecha edition and I like the colors, though the housing may seem cheap if you are used to more expensive IEMs. The cable is better than on the Chu but not as good as the cable that comes with more expensive IEMs. I have several sets of IEMs in the 100ish USD and below category and these are my third favorite after my Aria SEs and Letshuoer D13s. I place them above the Moondrop Chu due to the 7Hz Zero having a less metallic treble reproduction while being less fatiguing. The Zero also takes EQ a bit better than the Chu. For testing, I used the 7Hz Zero with several DACs, (2 AKM and 1 ESS). The Zero is one of the few that I liked with the ESS a little more than the AKM.

Darn good quality

Stock ear buds are hot garbage, but once you chuck on a set that seals properly these are fantastic and worth far more than their price. Cable is pretty good for the price too. Shipping to NZ over Christmas was better than expected! Would recommend to everyone for an amazing first pair.

Great IEM's for the Price

Really nice iem's. I got the Mecha's, and they sound fantastic. Look good, too. I grabbed some upgrade cables and tips, but the original cable and tips work just fine.

Surprisingly Bright

Owned the Zero for almost a month now, and I can say that it is definitely worth the price. However I do have some things that I do not personally like with the Zero. I will skip the good points because they are mostly the same as everyone else.

First, the sound signature. It is neutral bright, sure, but what I was most surprised about was how much brighter it was compared to even the Moondrop Chu, despite everyone saying the other way around. It was bright to the point where I had to EQ the upper mids and treble regions to smoothen out the sound, whereas for the Chu I did not have to do any sort of EQ to enjoy it.

Second, the fit. The Zero has a short nozzle so for someone with a deeper ear canal like me, I had to get longer stalk eartips (currently using BGVP E01 L) just so I can get a decent seal in my ears. Also the outer parts of the shell has some angled surfaces so for someone with big ears like me it eventually digs into my ears after maybe 30 minutes of listening and making it uncomfortable without adjusting,

Just a disclaimer that I am just one guy, my review is only subjective to my experience so mileage may vary. Give it a try anyway and see if you like it, it's not going to burn a hole in your wallets either way :)

The best 20 dollar IEM right now!

Incredible, simply incredible that they could manage such a finely tuned budget IEM with a solid build and a very nice detachable cable. Honestly think it is hands down the chifi recommendation now. The bass might not be to newcomer's expectations because its more tame but I love it and mids and trebles are just nice with solid detail retrieval and alright timbre

Best bang for your bucks

I said it, this has great value. The detail and clarity in the instruments and the vocals are way better than my previous earphones. Though I did miss the bass that was in the previous earphones.

But then I tried to EQ the 7hz, and it worked so much better than I had expected. Now I have both the detail in vocals/instruments AND the bass! Totally recommend!

A game changer in the $20 class.

I've been amazed at the level of improvement in the $40~$50 class of earphones, but the Salnotes ZERO is even more of a shock!
I would definitely recommend the Salnotes ZERO to anyone buying earphones for the first time.

Twenty bucks spent well.

Much has been said about these already. The only thing I would add here is that they do benefit from wide bore tips and better copper cable. Enjoy.

Great Value Daily Driver under $50 (Only with EQ)

Decided to order after seeing the hype around it and figured it'd serve well as an in-between best of both worlds solution between the Moondrop Chu and BLON BL-03.

When I first used it, it did sound great, but compared to the 03 it lacked the warmer bass that I became fond over. It definitely is a bassier Chu but it still was heavily lacking in the fun department compared to the 03's. The Zero being on that cusp of fun made it very frustrating to listen to when A/B testing between the 03 and Zero. This almost completely deterred me from use until I remembered about EQ'ing (and not wanting to return and or get the full value out of them).

GizAudio covered an EQ profile to help in his "WORLD'S BEST IEMs Under $50" video and wow. Just off this small change did it become my favourite amongst my three IEMs for all-around listening. Ofc I still use the 03 when I really want a meatier bass listening experience, but overall, this is worth the price. Especially given the better stock tips and cable out the box compared to the BL-03, and the better bass experience compared to the Chu. If this was my first set, I wouldn't complain at all other than of course missing out on the bass boost that was very easily remedied.

For my comfortability, I use some double flange tips from Aliexpress and use a Yinyoo 6 Core cable, but the stock cable is amazing. I just use the Zero Cable with my 03 just because.

tl;dr Sounds great, but as a bass enjoyer, it only clicked when EQ'd for more warmth. (See photo for info). Better than Chu imo, better cable, same amount of detail but with more bass.

Competition to the Chu but not a Chu killer.

Very good Sub $20 IEMs with more on the mellow, moody, warm body tones and flexible bass signature.

A different beast from the well know Moondrop Chu (which I also reviewed).

Amazing Value

This is an absolute winner of an i.e.m. I was amazed 10 seconds into listening to these. The tuning on the Zero is perfect. Good tuning can be elusive even in earphones costing literally 100 times this price. But the Salnotes tuner has some serious chops. The signature is very natural, verging on neutral (I wouldn’t mix and master on these, but I could use them in general composition without messing anything up too badly) and they’ve really nailed the sweet spot where the bass has a very decent rumble and thump without obscuring the sense of clarity of the overall sound. I feel like every set I buy these days has an emphasis in the upper midrange frequencies, (which I hate) but the Zero avoids this pitfall, keeping the mids relatively calm. Theres still a little more energy there than neutral, which keeps it engaging without being fatiguing. They also keep the treble at the perfect level, giving you a sense of airiness without ever being sharp. But more than just great tuning, these have very good technicalities as well. Not the most detailed set, but better than anything else I have in the price range. And the staging and imaging accuracy are so good that the sound feels immersive even without crazy detail. The stage is not huge, but its very round and evenly distributed, which really allows the imaging accuracy to stand out; Among the best imaging I’ve heard on single- dynamic-driver set. I highly recommend the Zero.

The packaging is right on target for this price point – a small simple box with just the essentials included – a good-enough-cable, a bag of silicone tips (which are rainbow, and surprisingly comfortable – big fan) and the iems themselves. The build is also impressive. I got the blue ones, and I think they look really unique, but also feel very substantial – they kind of remind me of the new plastic shells on some of the Campfire Audio sets. The shape of the shell is very angular and blocky, but they some how fit really well without any discomfort. These are a perfect every-day-carry headphone, and new Queen/King of the $20 price point. Well done Salnotes/7hz!

I absolutely LOVE the Salnotes Zero since I discovered them in Jan 2024, but I am curious to ask whether they will be discontinued in the near future? I am certainly hoping that that won’t happen. At least for a long time yet.

Thank you for your time.

Linsoul Audio

Thank you so much for your love for the Salnotes Zero! We currently have no plans to discontinue this model, and it will be available for the foreseeable future.
