Firstly, i have owned only 3 DAC's at this point in my life and Moondrop Dawn was the 2nd. I was absolutely convinced that this would sound somewhat same as my Hidisz S3 Pro. It does and it doesn't.
Firstly, there's even more power, which means that i can listen at even lower volumes than before, i'm at like 10% volume on Samsung S21 FE and on PC Windows volume is 4 or 6. Out of a 100. SICK! I'm 100% convinced that you DON'T NEED A DESKTOP DAC if you have this and you only listen to IEM's or not absolutely hardest to drive headphones. Period. Just plug this into USC-C or USB-A (via adapter) and you're done. Just remember to push sound quality as up as you can on whatever OS you're operating on.
On the go it seems to want very little juice to do it's sound processing black magick. I have not noticed anything crazy battery-wise. The fault is on the Samsung's side more than Moondrop's, the battery on S21 FE is not what you would call a beast.
For sound quality, it depends very much on the IEM's/headphones you use, but sound is full, rich and on the warmer side. Very pleasing and versatile. No shortage of bass!
Only drawback for on the go listening is Android OS, which resamples everything to 48kHz - which isn't this DACs fault by a long shot.
Compared to this, Hidisz is more relaxed and easy going, but this is not harsh by any means. Very "easy" and effortless for any genre, everything is just better - especially if you compare to having no DAC at all! That is not even comparable, really.
This DAC is easy to recommend, i think if you are not in the dongle DAC game, you really should be and at this pricepoint - there's really no question is this worth it... It absolutely is. If you listen to wired IEM's/headphones, i think you absolutely have to get one.
Purchased as an upgrade to the HBB Mele, because I wanted a little more treble and sound stage but a little less bass and warmth.
Pretty decent cable and a nice case.
All metal shell similar in shape to the Mele but slighlty lighter, not as thick and with a different nozzle angle.
Getting a good fit and seal requires some fiddling about and then they are ok.
In contrast the Mele and Thieaudio Legacy L2 just slips straight in and fit me better and more comfortably.
Noise isolation is better in the Mele and L2, and a little less than average here.
Sound stage is also average and less than the L2.
Less warm and bassy than the Mele and a little less warm than the L2.
Better than the Mele and mostly better than the L2, for the following reasons;
Cleaner sounding, with better resolution and micro detail.
However sometimes there is just a tiny bit too much treble and some music sounds better with the L2 because of that added warmth.
- Build quality 10/10
- Isolation and Noise canceling 10/10
- Soundstage 08/10
- Cable 10/10
- Design & Comfort 10/10
After 60+ days of burn-in I give 10/10 to this In-Ear. The sound of Thieaudio Legacy 4 is very detailed, neutral, clean and pretty well balanced
Great IEM for the price.
Best IEM's for the money. Great detail and resolution. Best tuned planar IEM you can get. Fantastic.
The HZSound Heart Mirror ZERO is a bright studio monitor-like sounding in-ear monitor available at a low price. Not only does it offer high-resolution sound at a low price, but the package is also above the price level, so it is a product that can be recommended because it offers considerable promise in terms of overall satisfaction.
The QoA Gimlet is IEMs that offers a QoA-like sound with a warm, mellow, and dense midrange. The range is a bit lacking and detail is easily lacking, and there are a few quirks, but the package and build quality are high and highly recommended if rich sound is your preference.
The essence of the QOA GImlet lies in its beautifully integrated midrange. While brightness is carefully suppressed, instrumental sounds have a sense of transparency and sound mellow and fresh.
The KZ ZAR is a model that delivers a mellow neutral sound with a heavy and dense low-frequency leaning.
In terms of sound quality, ZAR belongs to the lineage of typical recent KZ signature models such as KZ ZNA, KZ DQS, and CCA CXS, which, along with DQS, are closer to the lower frequencies.
Wow! I almost grab these more than my Sundara.
i bought one while i was new into the hobby, and now most of my family members also have one. fantastic IEM for the price (definitely a step up in technicalities to my wired apple buds), however it may lack bass for some and slightly thin sounding. but it’s 20$ and this is just nitpicking
I just bought this when i saw the review saying it has a subwoofer built in 🤣🤣.
I hate using EQ on my DAP. I have tried using a few IEMs but they cant satisfy me. I am not a bass head but i expect the bass to be like my Rotel/B&W combo. But i understand IEMs are hard to do it as speakers we can use our room acoustic to change the sound appearance.
So hearing this IEM, i am really 'wowed', it does have the bass, deep and punchy when required without having to EQ. Mid is a bit of recessed but i dont like shouty or on my face vocal. Treble is the tricky part, it is rather tamed, altho i would prefer it to be slightly louder. But it actually performs well with most of my songs collection. Staging is ok i guess, i am more into instruments timbre as to staging so i cant comment much on this. BTW i pair this with either Shanling M6v21 and Fiio M11 plus ESS.
I am happy with this purchase, for this price. Tho its dark sounding, i dont mind it.
