Tonal Integrity

Tonal Integrity

Tonal integrity was a key focus during the design of the Aether. Adhering to Kiwi Ears' signature tonal balance, the Aether offers a natural, accurate sound. The midrange (300 to 800Hz) remains flat for monitor-like accuracy, ensuring true representation of instruments and vocals. The treble is finely tuned to align with the human ear's tonal perception, providing a clear yet natural high-frequency response.

    The best IEMs for gaming

The tested roundup singles out Aether for a warm, detailed sound and spatial presentation that works across games and music. Its large shell may not suit every ear, and listeners seeking pronounced bass impact may prefer another tuning.

The review describes controlled low frequencies, a spacious stage and smooth delivery. The shells are bulky and the stock cable is basic; treble sensitivity may still matter.

Customers praised these planar IEMs for "insane sound" with exceptional detail and spacious soundstage. Reviewers loved the balanced bass, clear treble, and comfortable fit for hours of listening. The V-shape tuning works excellently for music and gaming. Main complaint: cable tangles easily.

Like Lifting a Veil: Kiwi Ears Aether Unleashes True Openness

The Aether model is my second pair of headphones from Kiwi Ears. My first was the Spark – wireless OWS earbuds that I use during everyday activities: sports, cooking, home improvement projects, and so on. They’ve perfectly replaced Bluetooth speakers for me. And Kiwi Ears Aether I use for high‑quality music listening or while working at the computer. Before purchasing this IEM, I read many reviews and watched various video overviews, and I was impressed by the sheer number of positive responses. Now, after two months of use, I can share my own impressions.
---------------
Kiwi Ears Aether are my first planar headphones. Before, I used Beats Solo 3 wireless on‑ear headphones. With closed dynamic headphones like those, I never liked how the music seemed to play “inside the head”: no sense of space or air, which made me constantly want to turn up the volume, hoping that louder sound would compensate for the lack of openness. Closed headphones with leather pads also gave me that vacuum pressure feeling in the ears, sweating, and outer ear pain after long sessions. That’s why I mostly listened to music through Hi‑Fi speaker systems with subwoofers and avoided headphones altogether.
---------------
With the Kiwi Ears Aether, the sound is completely different—it is spacious, natural, free, almost alive, as if I’m present at the event itself. What’s especially interesting is that this openness finally gave me a sense of enough volume. Even at lower listening levels, I don’t feel detached. The volume feels sufficient at any level.
--------------
The detail retrieval of this IEM deserves special mention. No dynamic headphones I’ve ever tried revealed so many nuances in music. The upper mids and treble are especially rich in detail, yet never excessive—no grain, no sibilance, nothing harsh. I’m rediscovering my entire music collection and hearing new things everywhere. That said, such detail can expose flaws in low‑quality recordings or poorly mixed electronic music tracks. But in my case, I don’t have many of those, and even MP3s at 128 kbps often sound surprisingly not bad.
--------------
Now about the bass. This is the first pair of headphones where the bass quantity feels absolutely perfect—not too much, not too little, just right. On my home audio system with subwoofers, or with closed dynamic headphones, I often had to use a few EQ presets to tame the bass in bass‑heavy tracks. With the Kiwi Ears Aether, I don’t need any presets at all. The bass is consistently balanced across almost all albums and recordings. Its character is also impressive—no boominess, no muddiness, no excessive filling. Combined with crystal‑clear mids and highs, the sound becomes simply divine. You can listen for hours without fatigue. This IEM work equally well for background listening at low volume or for analytical listening at higher levels. In both cases, you feel presence and engagement with the music.
---------------
I listen to many genres, but mostly symphonic and classical music, and it sounds magnificent on this IEM. The name “Aether” truly matches their sound—airy and spacious. The decorative side panels with glitter composition are also a work of art. The fit is excellent: they sit in the ear canals comfortably, with no pressure or irritation, so you can wear them for hours. Huge thanks to Kiwi Ears for creating this masterpiece.
----------------
A few words about amplification and cables. For comfortable listening with full spaciousness and detail, even a regular smartphone with a built‑in DAC is enough. But to preserve dynamics and avoid clipping, it’s better to use at least a portable DAC/amp—like the Sabaj Da3, which I’ve been using for years as the source for my home Hi‑Fi system. With such low‑power DAC/amps, it’s important to connect via the balanced output for more power, which requires a cable with a balanced 4‑pin TRRS plug. The stock cable is balanced in construction (four independent conductors) but terminated with a 3‑pin TRS 3.5 mm mini-jack. So, if desired, you can re‑terminate it yourself to TRRS. I could have done that, but didn’t want the hassle, so after a month I bought a TRN T2 Pro headphone cable with a balanced 2.5 mm plug. The sound improved even further!
----------------
Overall, I wholeheartedly recommend this IEM to anyone who values spaciousness, transparency, engagement, and detail in sound—where every note and instrument is clearly rendered. But for bass‑heads who want overwhelming low‑end, this may not be the right choice.

One of the best sounding devices for the price if it's on sale.

It may not be the best overall Planar. It may not be the cheapest IEM with the best sound or the most all-round sound... but so what?
This Aether has something few others have. A brutal soundstage. A very well-crafted timbre... that alone makes it worth having, even if it's just as a second headphone in your collection. Its price is very reasonable, and I think it's a great value for what it offers.

Kiwi Ears Aether Review – A well made V-Shape Planar IEM!

The Kiwi Ears Aether is hyped up, and in my opinion, for a good reason. The beautiful balance here is well made, the bass impact is good and satisfied my bass needs, the treble is open, airy and sparkly. It is just what I wanted an IEM to sound like. For me, it is an easy recommendation for everyone, I cannot see anyone who won't like it. It is not too bright, not too bassy, not boring, it just does everything right. I see many reviews and people say that this IEM is good but not special. I am not saying they are wrong, but I don't agree with them. The fact that it is not trying hard to be special, and it is just good because it is good, and has good price for what you get, is awesome. You get decent V-Shape tuning, great technical performance, what else do you need? So yeah, I think its hype is justified. If you have the money, you are getting here decent value. Good packaging, cable, ear tips, and IEM. It is hard not to love it, really.

Awesome

They sound excellent right out of the box, and they handle EQ exceptionally well. They are comfortable. The tips are good, and the case is good. It would be a 5-star rating if not for the bird-nesting cable. It's thin, light, with zero microphonics, but it has no spring. That means no memory issues, and that's great, but roll them up and set them down, or stick them in the case, and they will tie themselves into knots every time. The cable is just too flimsy. Every time I take them off, they tangle themselves up. It's my only gripe, and it would not stop me from buying them or recommending them. I love them.

Praiseworthy Planar

Kiwi Ears continues to impress with the Aether. My initial impression is that this can't possibly be just a single planar driver IEM, can it?

The detail and bass quality are so impressive that it's hard to believe it doesn't include any DD or BA drivers.

Despite its seemingly substantial size, the Aether fits comfortably in my small-to-average ears.

True to Kiwi Ears' signature tonal balance, the Aether produces a natural sound. The bass provides a deep, subwoofer-like punch with a touch of warmth. The treble is clear and smooth, making it easy to listen for hours without fatigue.

It's unfortunate that Kiwi Ears doesn't offer a balanced 2.5mm/4.4mm cable option, as the Aether sounds much better with a balanced connection.

If your budget is under $180, the Kiwi Ears Aether comes highly recommended. However, if you prefer a more forward and detailed sound, you might consider the Kiwi Ears Quintet.

These are outstanding! They sound like my open back HiFiMan 400SEs at around half the price. The reviewers are right, these set up the benchmark for future Planar Magnetic IEMs. For the best Dynamic Driver set, check out the FatFreq "Deuce" Worth the extra C note; especially for 'Bass Heads'!

Is this product suitable for vegans?

Linsoul Audio

Hi there,

Great question — here’s the info on the Kiwi Ears Aether:

Shell material: Medical-grade resin (3D printed) with aluminium faceplates

Cable: High-purity OFC (oxygen-free copper), which is fully metal—no animal parts

Eartips: Silicone tips (standard kit), which are vegan-friendly

This means no leather, fur, or other animal-derived materials are used in the construction. So yes — the Aether is suitable for vegans.
