Thanks to Rosie for sending the UI-05s out for review. My unit is the purple one.
For this review, I have been sitting at my desk for days (getting over bloody RSV), so have had tons of time with the UI-05s. I have spent 95% of my testing with the new Schiit Asgard amp with Mesh Dac card (streaming Tidal from PC via USB).
I won’t give too much away, but…….Jeez Louise this little desktop guy may…..just MAY, get a half bloody decent review……………..
I won’t start fan-boying just yet but I’m on high gain on the Azzy X with a completely BLACK background………not many desktop amps can achieve that with sensitive iems….
But I digress!
The Unboxing & Physical Overview
The EUiU UI-05 arrives in a nice but minimalist package for a smallish contender priced at $99 USD. Sliding off the cardboard sleeve reveals a generous layout of accessories that punches well above its double-digit weight class.
The Accessories: Inside, you are greeted by a sturdy, zippered bright orange faux-leather carrying case and an absolute matrix of silicone eartips. EUiU includes standard narrow, wide, and medium-bore tips, alongside the signature yellow-bore tips famously borrowed from its sister brand, Inawaken.
I love all the tips but as I’m not a tip expert, I’d love to see them arranged in “bass” or “treble” categories. I put a wide bore yellow and grey pair on and seemed to lose bass.
I tried the black and the grey and they were much better but then I tried the orange and clear and………………….oh my……….Bass slammed, treble was at maximum without sibilance, and vocals seemed to shine. More on all this later (tips REALLY DO MATTER)…….
Specs for the UI-05 are: 17dB Impedance and 106dB Sensitivity.
The Cable: The included 4-core gold-and-alloy-plated braided hybrid cable has a 0.78mm 2-pin interface. It’s nice enough. It’s black, braided, flexible and terminated in 3.5mm. No modular system but then again, It’s sub $100 USD!
Design & Comfort: The IEM shells themselves are a masterclass in modern resin pouring. Crafted from a solid, translucent purple resin, they feature a glittering, nebula-style faceplate outlined by a cleanly machined metal border. Because the resin is crystal clear, you can actually peek inside to see the internal acoustic tubes and the complex, stacked driver array. Despite housing five drivers, the ergonomic contouring is smooth, providing a comfortable, lightweight seal that doesn't trigger ear fatigue over long listening sessions.
I love the look and the feel of these guys!!!!!
Sound Profile Breakdown
1. Bass
Instead of relying on a single overworked dynamic driver, EUiU throws a tag-team into the ring. You have a massive 10mm biological diaphragm dealing exclusively with deep sub-bass rumble, coupled back-to-back along the exact same acoustic axis with a 6mm titanium-plated driver managing the mid-bass punch.
Because the low frequencies are split between two specialized drivers, the bass is remarkably fast, tight, and textured without stepping on the rest of the mix. The sub-bass goes low, especially with the orange/clear tips. I’m impressed!
On EDM and Electronic, It gives you all the physical acoustic impact of a club subwoofer, without the associated headache of dealing with a sweaty crowd, sticky floors or sleazy fellow patrons……
On I Got Acid by 999999999, Marie Vaunt, the bottom end just slams! It’s deep, impactful, visceral and it doesn’t bleed into the midbass.
On Morph the Cat by Donald Fagen, there’s a great bass run and it just shines on the UI-05s. It’s clean, deep and punchy!
2. Mids
The midrange leans toward a natural, smooth, and well-balanced presentation. A single custom BA manages the lower to middle frequencies.
Instruments possess a realistic weight and clean instrument separation. The 3-way crossover keeps the transition from the mid-bass to the lower-mids impressively coherent.
Vocals are clean and forward, though if you're looking for ultra-warm, romantic, chesty male vocals, the UI-05 treats singers a bit more like a clinical stage monitor and less like a campfire serenade. But this is how I like my vocals, so it suits me to a tee.
Again, on Morph the Cat, Fagen sounds deep, natural and full.
Female vocals shine too. On the original version of Jolene by Dolly (Vale Dolly!), and yes, I had to go there……Dolly sounds real, natural and well balanced. She’s not compressed or compacted in any way. And the bass run again here is just fun.
On Hendrix’s All Along the Watchtower, Hendrix sounds like…..well Hendrix. He’s punchy, full, not relegated to the background and
3. Treble
The high frequencies are governed by two dedicated high-frequency balanced armatures.
Micro-details roll out smoothly with plenty of air and sparkle, but without the artificial, metallic "BA timber" glare that usually makes cymbals sound like shattering glass.
It is tuned safely enough to prevent aggressive ear fatigue, meaning it won't punish your poorly recorded 2000s MP3 rips quite as brutally as some hyper-bright competitors.
BUT resolution and detail are simply excellent, especially given we are talking under 100 bucks!!!!
On Vivaldi’s Winter (New Club Remix) by Pit Bailay, drum snaps flick quickly, transients are fast and punchy, violins are clean, detailed and the electronic synth mixing is bright but not in any way sibilant.
Poseidon’s Rage by Fraser Edwards is a frenetic metal implosion with many instruments firing simultaneously and a good deal in the upper frequencies. The UI-05s handle the treble cacophony with aplomb and actually manage to separate the tumult well.
There’s machine-gun drums, death-growl vocals, speed-metal guitar, high female vocals, synth anthe rest. Nothing gets piercing and I can listen to this track loud, just how I like it!!!!!
4. Staging, Imaging and Separation
I’ve already mentioned I’m running this review through the Schiit Asgard X with Mesh Dac card, and that influences the sound quality of the UI-05s. They are great little iems (if you haven’t worked that out already), but I can GUARANTEE it, the Asgard X is allowing them to shine…………..
Ok, You Shook Me – Zeppelin cover by CC Colletti. It’s a binaural recording in an old church. On the UI-05s, guitar is out left but at my temple. It’s out 25cm or so and harmonica comes in left, as so a couple of clicks. It’s about 15 cm left at my ear level. Colletti is right in front of me but not too near.
I know this song so well and staging and imaging is honestly up there with MUCH higher priced iems.
I love the tuning of these guys but the staging and imaging may well be their BEST feature. For $99!!!!!!
Placement is literally all around and outside my head.
On Metallica’s One, my absolute staging test track, they pass with flying colours! Far out left, behind my head and finishing far out wide too.
And this song can get sibilant on some gear. Not on the UI-05s.
5. Comparison
KBEar Voyages - $99 USD also and 1DD + 3BA.
And I LOVE the look of the Voyages too, beautiful face plate, translucent shell.
I reviewed these recently and loved them.
The Voyages handle bass with a punchy, mid-bass-dominant slam. It feels incredibly fast and well-textured, but it does lack the raw sub-bass quantity and physical authority that the UI-05 generates.
For me, the mids are similar on both pairs, with the UI-05s being slightly more organic and full maybe?
And treble goes to the UI-05s. The Voyages are highly detailed and technical but this can lead to slight sibilance occasionally whereas the UI-05s seem to produce highs with an airy grace, without any harshness at all, no matter the track or volume.
And staging is very similar – both are out wide with a 3d area, and both can place images well apart from the others, giving them good space and air.
The win for me here is the UI-05s.
The Verdict
In my opinion, the EUiU UI-05 delivers phenomenal 3D depth imaging and spatial representation for its price tier. It provides an immersive, high-resolution experience that proves smaller manufacturers don't need to inflate driver counts to sound genuinely great. If you are an electronic music fan, an orchestral listener, or a competitive gamer looking for an expansive soundstage under $100, Linsoul has your fix right here with the EUiU UI-05s.
